Wimbledon could get world-class concert hall

A 1,250-seater world-class concert hall could be built in Wimbledon after receiving 80 per cent of the public vote in the Future Wimbledon competition.
Architects, schools and community groups were invited to draw up ideas as to how the town centre could evolve and the public vote appears to have brought the vision for the new venue to be built in the car park behind Morrison’s a stage closer.
Anthony Wilkinson, director of Wimbledon Music Festival, told the Wimbledon Guardian that £1million had already been pledged towards the project.
Helen Clark Bell, Love Wimbledon BID manager, said: “The public’s favourite adds to the strong cultural presence in our town centre, something Love Wimbledon is very supportive of. Well done to them.”
